Proton Launches Non-Custodial Bitcoin Wallet
Swiss company Proton, known for its data protection technologies, has announced the launch of its own Bitcoin wallet called Proton Wallet. This wallet will have open-source code, allowing users to verify its security and functions. The feature of Proton Wallet is that it belongs to the class of non-custodial wallets, meaning that users control their own access keys and therefore, their funds.
Integration with ProtonMail
One of the interesting features of Proton Wallet will be the ability to send cryptocurrency directly from the interface of the ProtonMail email service. This is a convenient solution for users who can integrate their financial transactions into their familiar email environment. To ensure the security of funds, Proton Wallet will use its own encryption algorithms.
Access and Availability
Currently, only selected customers who participated in crowdfunding before the company’s launch in 2014 have access to Proton Wallet. It is worth noting that in Russia, the ProtonMail email service is blocked by Roskomnadzor, despite the company’s attempts to challenge this decision. In the highly competitive market of cryptocurrency wallets, Proton Wallet will compete with numerous counterparts. However, considering the company’s reputation and experience in data security, it is expected that the new wallet will find its audience and become popular among cryptocurrency users.
