Justin Sun Proposes #FreePavel DAO to Support Detained Telegram CEO

Justin Sun, the founder of the TRON blockchain and CEO of cryptocurrency exchanges HTX and Poloniex, has proposed the creation of a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) called #FreePavel DAO to support Pavel Durov, the creator of the Telegram messenger. Durov was recently detained by French authorities over allegations of content moderation issues on the platform.

Background

On August 24th, Pavel Durov was arrested at Le Bourget Airport in France. He faces accusations of insufficient content moderation on Telegram, potentially leading to illegal activities on the platform. Durov, a French citizen since 2021, could possibly face up to 20 years in prison. Currently, he is detained at the airport’s immigration center pending a decision on his case.

#FreePavel Initiative

Justin Sun has pledged a $1 million personal donation to kickstart #FreePavel DAO. Sun hopes to garner community support for the initiative based on decentralized principles. He has called on prominent figures like Elon Musk and Mario Naftal to join the effort to aid in Durov’s legal release.

A social media campaign with hashtags #FreePavel and #FREEDUROV has gained momentum, highlighting what supporters see as unjust charges and censorship of Durov. American politician Robert Francis Kennedy Jr. has voiced his support for Durov, emphasizing the importance of defending free speech and resisting censorship in the present-day context.
