Bitcoin Revives «Zombie Companies» Metaplanet and Semler Scientific
Metaplanet and Semler Scientific, previously labeled as «zombie companies», have received a financial lifeline thanks to Bitcoin. Zombie companies are those that can meet their current obligations but lack growth potential, often teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. However, after delving into the world of Bitcoin, both companies have seen a remarkable turnaround in their financial performance.
Metaplanet, an investment firm from Japan, and Semler Scientific, a software developer, were struggling with stagnation issues and a lack of investor interest. Eric Semler, chairman of Semler Scientific, revealed that they realized their status as zombie companies when their stock prices remained static despite having financial reserves.
Responding to this, the companies decided to invest in Bitcoin, with immediate and impressive results. Semler Scientific’s stocks surged by 40% after purchasing the cryptocurrency on May 28. Metaplanet, on the other hand, saw their stocks increase over tenfold since acquiring Bitcoins on April 23.
Both companies maintain that they are not fearful of the cryptocurrency market’s volatility. Instead, they view the enhanced liquidity of their securities as an avenue for further growth. Investing in Bitcoin has unexpectedly breathed new life into these companies, turning around their financial difficulties and opening doors to exciting possibilities.
