Discord Channel of Polygon Project Hacked

Yesterday, the Discord channel of the Polygon project was hacked, resulting in hackers stealing cryptocurrency worth approximately $145,000. The attack was carried out using fraudulent links, distributed under the guise of messages from official support agents. Control over the server was restored three hours after the incident.

The hackers used a well-known method of social engineering: they posed as support service representatives and posted malicious links, which, as it turned out, led to fake websites designed to steal personal information and cryptocurrency. Members of the Polygon community began to notice suspicious messages and links, leading to an immediate alert.

Among the channel users was someone who promptly reported a potential threat. However, not all users were able to notice the warning and protect their assets. One participant with the nickname «ValidatorK» reported a loss of $150,000 in Ethereum (ETH), highlighting the seriousness of the incident.

Channels like this, where important data and asset management tools are stored, become targets for cybercriminals due to their significance and high concentration of valuable content. In this case, despite the rapid restoration of control over the server, the attack resulted in significant financial losses.

Authorities of the Polygon project and channel administrators are already working on strengthening security measures to prevent similar attacks in the future and to ensure the protection of users from cyber threats.
