Vitalik Buterin Proposes Confidential Likes on Farcaster

Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, has proposed implementing a new technology of confidential likes using zero-knowledge proofs (ZK) for the social network Farcaster. This initiative aims to increase transparency and fairness in content evaluation, preventing manipulation of post popularity and falsification of user preferences.

Zero-knowledge proofs (ZK) are a cryptographic method that allows one party to prove to another that a certain statement is true without disclosing private information. In the case of likes, this will ensure the protection of user privacy, allowing them to react to posts without compromising their personal data.

Buterin proposed to use ZK technology from Zupoll, a tool that is used on the Zuzalu platform, focused on decentralization and anonymous voting. This solution will help the social network to avoid issues with like manipulation and provide a more honest representation of community opinions.

The idea of implementing ZK likes has gained popularity amid rumors that the banned platform X in Russia may start hiding user likes. This has sparked a mixed reaction on social media, as likes play an important role in assessing the quality of content. They help users understand how interesting and useful a post is before reading it.

Implementing confidential likes based on ZK technology could be a significant step towards improving transparency and security on social networks, allowing for user privacy to be maintained while preventing manipulation of content popularity.
