Donald Trump Now Accepts Cryptocurrency Donations for Pre-Election Campaign
Former US President Donald Trump has made history by becoming the first major political figure to accept donations in cryptocurrency for his upcoming pre-election campaign. Starting from May 21, 2024, Trump supporters can contribute funds in bitcoins, Ethereum, Solana, USD Coin, XRP, Dogecoin, 0x, Shiba Inu, and other digital currencies through the Coinbase Commerce platform.
However, it is important to note that cryptocurrency donations are only accepted from federally approved donors who have provided their personal information. This step is taken to comply with federal legislation requirements and prevent any potential misuse of funds.
In response to this new development, Trump supporters believe that the ability to donate in cryptocurrency will strengthen campaign support and create a formidable «crypto army» that could play a pivotal role in the upcoming elections on November 5. This statement was released on Trump’s official website, where it was also mentioned that this initiative aims to counter the «anti-crypto army» declared by Elizabeth Warren. Warren has been critical of the cryptocurrency industry and has vowed to limit Americans’ access to certain financial services.
One of Trump’s cryptocurrency wallets, created on the Ethereum network, currently holds digital assets worth $2.3 million. As of now, the first donation in the last 12 days was received in this wallet — 0.05 ETH, equivalent to $189 at the current exchange rate. This could indicate that a portion of future donations might be directed to this crypto vault.
It is clear that Trump is embracing modern financial technologies to attract funds for his campaign, showcasing his willingness to adapt to new trends and technologies in political financing.
