Vice President of Ghana Announces Blockchain Implementation
Vice President of Ghana Mahamudu Bawumia has announced that the country aims to become the first government in Africa to fully implement blockchain technology in its operations. According to Bawumia, using blockchain will make all government data and transactions completely transparent and secure from unauthorized access, which, in turn, will help combat corruption.
Digital Transformation Program in Ghana
Bawumia emphasized that the government plans to transition all transactions related to government expenditures to a digital platform by the end of this year. This transformation will be part of a broad digital transformation program that will also involve citizen identity cards. As part of this program, a unified electronic identifier will be created to provide government services and financial transactions. This step is intended to prevent the theft of personal data and improve control over social support.
Ghana’s Move towards Advanced Technologies
Earlier, Kwame Oppong, Head of Financial Technology and Innovation at the Bank of Ghana, expressed confidence that the government’s digital currency will significantly increase citizens’ access to financial services and become an important part of the country’s digital ecosystem. Thus, Ghana is taking a decisive step towards integrating advanced technologies in governance and finance, becoming a potential leader in digital transformations on the continent.
