Marathon Sets New Record with Largest Block in Bitcoin Blockchain
Marathon mining pool has set a new record in the cryptocurrency community with the largest block in the Bitcoin blockchain. Block 841,886, mined by Marathon, reached a size of 3,993 megabytes (MB), surpassing the previous record of 3,990 MB associated with the Runestone Ordinal project.
This record-breaking block included only four transactions, compared to the previous record block 832,849, which contained seven transactions. Marathon was rewarded with 3.16977148 BTC, approximately $2654.55, including a transaction fee of 0.04477148 BTC.
The interest in Ordinals in Bitcoin, which started in February 2023, led to the growth in block sizes. Marathon’s block 836,361, which contained an image of the letter «M», had a size of 1.72 MB. This growth highlights the continuous interest in new technologies and projects in the Bitcoin ecosystem.
