Shibarmy Scam Alerts reports on a new type of cryptocurrency scam that has started spreading through reputable platforms. Scammers are now using ads for high-paying job opportunities to deceitfully gain access to your cryptocurrency assets.
The scheme works as follows:
Scammers publish job ads with enticing offers, such as game testing or other tasks. Candidates are asked to download special software supposedly needed to do the work. For example, if the job is related to game testing, scammers ask to download a gaming application.
However, when such software is installed on the user’s device, a malicious program is automatically downloaded. This program allows scammers to access cryptocurrency wallet extensions, such as MetaMask. With the help of this malware, fraudsters can sign transactions and obtain victims’ private keys without their knowledge, giving them full access to the crypto wallets.
Shibarmy Scam Alerts advises:
Be extremely cautious when responding to job offers and to only download software from official and verified sources. To increase security, it is recommended to use hardware wallets and never disclose seed phrases to third parties.
If you have already downloaded suspicious software, it is advisable to immediately conduct a comprehensive antivirus scan and remove any malicious programs. It is also recommended to uninstall and reinstall web browsers and extensions, or even better, create a new crypto address and transfer funds from a potentially compromised address. Be cautious with offers to recover stolen cryptocurrencies — most of such services are fraudulent.
